There’s a lot of confusion about what ingredients are in personal care products and let’s face it with ingredients listed in latin or even in their chemical compound names, it can be all the more confusing and daunting if you live with allergies or sensitivities like eczema, asthma, psoriasis and dermatitis.
If you’re here, it’s likely you’re looking for a free from haircare brand that understands that limonene and linalool are known to cause allergic contact dermatitis and with significant rates of contact allergy to these fragrances reported, you’re looking for a brand that excludes them.
Rest assured that they will never be found in our inci list.
“It’s not fragrance free, if it has aloe vera in it”
A recent email we received claimed the above, so we wanted to clarify that our aloe vera is 100% fragrance free. The compound we use to nourish and soothe the scalp in our sensitive shampoo is a spray-dried aloe vera juice powder; a mild and gentle compound that brings all the benefits of aloe to our formula with the limonene and linalol completely processed out. When we say fragrance-free, we mean it. The ‘Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice’ (Aloe Vera) included in our ingredients list is 100% free of;
• Linalool (CAS Reg No. 78-70-6)
• d-Limonene (CAS Reg No. 5989-27-5)
• Geraniol (CAS Reg No. 106-24-1).
Zero percent, means zero percent.
Our commitment to transparency and safety is backed by not only one but two leading organisations. Our formula has seen rigorous scrutiny from trusted organisations Allergy UK and Asthma Allergy Nordic. Every aspect of our combined formula, individual ingredients contained within and their provenance have been meticulously examined to ensure zero presence of limonene or linalool (among other listed allergens). Your well-being is our top priority, and we stand by our promise of providing you with genuinely limonene-free haircare solutions. It's how we have held and maintained these accreditations for so many years.
We remain the only haircare range* recommended as ‘unlikely to cause reaction’ and 'may be of benefit' by Allergy UK.
Designed by Danish haircare experts House of Scandinavian Haircare (HOSC) with an ultra-mild formula, our range exists to minimise the risk of allergies as well as helping to prevent skin and scalp irritation.
Why do we include limonene and linalol free aloe vera?
It's simple. Aloe vera is known for its powerful healing properties, so when the science became available it made perfect sense to use this powerful ingredient to help soothe the scalp whilst conditioning the hair. The regenerative properties it contains have been reported for millennia. The aloe vera plant is described in detail in the Greek Herbal of Dioscorides (ca 70 ad), and its use promoted for the treatment of hair loss.
Raw aloe contains 75 active ingredients, including vitamins A, C, E, B12, and choline and is rich in amino acids with research indicating a positive correlation between the use of aloe vera in shampoo and hair and scalp health.
According to the Trichological Society, the average rate of hair growth is 1 centimetre per month and washing hair using aloe vera may help to promote hair growth, but this is not scientifically proven and is primarily determined by genetics and an individual’s health, but a helping hand can’t hurt.
